 It Started With a Little Girl Who Loved Books
When Mrs. Jeannie was young, she loved reading more than anything. She loved her reading teacher. She loved the feeling of sounding out new words and understanding a story for the first time.
Then she got sick.
She missed months of school during her most important early reading years. And when she came back, everything had moved on without her. The class was ahead. The lessons didn't make sense anymore. And nobody slowed down to help her catch up.
She Started to Believe She Wasn't Smart Enough...
Not because it was true...but because when you're a little kid and you can't keep up, that's what it feels like. And nobody was there to tell her otherwise.
The truth is, it's tough being a teacher in a school with a lot of students. You don't have the time or attention to sit with each child who's struggling and guide them individually. You have to keep moving. And some kids get left behind. They get mislabeled as slow or not bright...when really, they just needed someone to slow down.

She Made a Promise That Changed Everything
When Mrs. Jeannie grew up, she didn't forget what it felt like to struggle. She didn't forget the loneliness of falling behind while everyone else moved forward. And she didn't forget how much she wanted someone, anyone, to just sit with her and help.
So she became a teacher. And she made herself a promise:Â she would find a way to make sure no child would ever feel the way she did.
She spent 30 years in the classroom, working with every kind of learner. She also spent years tutoring children one on one...because you learn things working with a child individually that you can never learn in a classroom of 25.
